A digital preservation project recording 61 ancestral mask stories in the Mah Meri language to safeguard intangible cultural heritage for future generations.
This project was initiated to document the fading oral traditions of the Mah Meri people. With many elder storytellers stopping and younger carvers losing the narrative link to their crafts, the team successfully recorded 61 mask stories in audio form. This includes vital records of the "Moyang Sembuar" legend, ensuring the community's cultural identity remains intact.
By involving schoolchildren from SK Sg. Bumbun and SK Sg. Judah, the project fostered a intergenerational knowledge transfer. The culmination on Community Day (April 2018) saw the donation of laptops and storybooks to village leaders, providing the tools needed to continue sharing these stories within families and local schools.
This preservation initiative supports inclusive education and the protection of cultural world heritage.
