Economic Generation through Commercial Banana Cultivation
Commercial banana cultivation is one of the branches of economic growth in Malaysia. Therefore, PERKIM as a non -governmental organization that helps converts and indigenous people is interested in using this method to improve the living standards of their communities. With that, PERKIM together with the University of Malaya has joined hands to train the PERKIM community in agricultural skills to reduce the cost of living through this project. To ensure this activity gets lucrative returns, planting banana plants with tissue culture seedlings is recommended as clone plants can ensure consistently high quality and quantity of high quality fruit to be harvested. UM has supplied tissue culture seedlings to the PERKIM community and transferred the care techniques of cultured banana seedlings in nurseries and biochar production techniques from agricultural waste. Apart from that, the District Agriculture Department, Negeri Sembilan also cooperated in providing planting advisory services on the farm to make this project a success. Through this project, PERKIM can overcome financial problems and further improve the livelihood of their community.
