About HEBAT

HEBAT (Henti Elak Basmi Asap Tembakau) is an innovative two-tiered training program that empowers Malaysian university students to become effective advocates for tobacco control. Through a dynamic peer-to-peer approach, HEBAT addresses the rising issues of smoking and vaping among teenagers by focusing on both prevention and cessation. Level 1 offers an intensive one-day workshop featuring five interactive modules, including social media advocacy and communication strategies. Participants then develop and deliver impactful school-based projects, engaging students through talks and educational activities. Successful participants advance to Level 2, where they receive certification after a reflective debriefing. School students who seek help for tobacco cessation are supported by certified counsellors and expert faculty from the University of Malaya. Driven by a multidisciplinary team of medical professionals, education specialists, counsellors, and creative arts practitioners, HEBAT is expanding its impact by integrating theatre, drama, and digital storytelling—harnessing the power of creative advocacy to build a tobacco-free future for Malaysian youth.
