The financial knowledge among these individuals is currently at a basic level. Therefore, there is a call to introduce financial management knowledge at a younger age, especially among children from the Asnaf group. The financial literacy module covers various topics such as financial behavior, financial planning, budgeting, savings, credit cards, insurance, financial fraud, and cyber threats. Additionally, financial literacy games using apps will also be introduced. This module aims to help B40 youth plan their finances and spend wisely.

The Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) strives to improve the living standards of the Asnaf, particularly the B40 group, and help them break free from the cycle of poverty. Various forms of assistance have been provided through distribution schemes to ensure their quality of life is secured. However, the Asnaf, especially those from low-income backgrounds, are still trapped in poverty, some facing high levels of debt due to ineffective financial management, stemming from low financial literacy levels.

Most young people from low-income groups receive limited exposure to financial literacy. The level of indebtedness among B40 youth in Malaysia is concerning. There's an urgent need to provide basic financial literacy exposure and knowledge to prevent these issues from persisting. If left unchecked, they can lead to serious problems such as bankruptcy at a young age, stress, depression, and mental health issues. Studies suggest that foundational financial literacy is crucial (Remund, 2010). Knowledge of savings, loans, investments, and budgeting needs attention when assessing financial literacy among school students (Chen & Volpe, 1998), aligning with the findings of Peng et al. (2007), which showed that students with high financial literacy skills make better hypothetical spending decisions.

Through this program, LZS can indirectly monitor and provide responsible financial management guidance to the Asnaf group receiving assistance from LZS's charitable schemes. The project's objectives are as follows:

  1. Implement a Financial Literacy Learning Module for B40 Youth (Asnaf Fakir and Miskin).

  2. Assess the financial literacy levels of B40 youth (Asnaf Fakir and Miskin) before and after module instruction.

  3. Enhance knowledge and effective financial management skills among B40 youth (Asnaf Fakir and Miskin).

  4. Optimize the financial resources of B40 youth (Asnaf Fakir and Miskin) through wise financial management.

  5. Create a financial literacy learning resource using apps.
