UM-DTC EDU-HISTO-TOURISM: Training UM-DTC Tourist Guided Walk Program
Visitors who visit leading universities in the world can get information about the history of the university and important buildings on campus through the 'Campus Guided Tour' or 'Edu-Pelancongan' Program. Therefore, this project aims to develop an in-house program to train 'certified guided walk/tourist guide' for Universiti Malaya (staff and students) who are interested through the UM-DTC EDU-HISTO-TOURISM program. This program is a way to introduce UM's heritage buildings to the public (visitors both from abroad and within the country and from various academic levels and backgrounds) in a more professional and organized manner. The Dewan Tunku Chancellor (DTC) building was chosen because it is the only academic building in the country that has been listed as a National Heritage Building by the National Heritage Department (2008). Explanation and introduction to visitors about DTC in terms of history, the uniqueness of architecture and construction, the conservation process that has been carried out after the 2001 tragedy and the significance of the building to the university and the country. This 'UM-DTC Tourist Guided Walk' project is a 'pilot project' to develop an edu-histo-tourism program: 'A guided trail of heritage buildings in University of Malaya' in the future.
