Impact Goal

Downstaging Late Cases

Reducing diagnostic & referral latency

Community Navigation Pillars:

  • Grassroots Intermediaries: Training hospital advisory board members (Ahli Lembaga Pelawat), retired hospital staff, and B40 volunteers to detect early red-flag symptoms.
  • Confidence Uplift in Breast & Cervical Literacy: Post-course evaluations showed significant jumps in self-reported confidence to identify early breast changes and cervical cancer symptoms.
  • Seamless Patient Navigation: Guiding patients through complex hospital appointment workflows, financial barriers, and emotional hesitation to ensure 100% treatment adherence.

Evidence-Based Insights

Debunking Early Cancer Diagnosis Myths

Click any myth below to uncover evidence-based realities established through REBUNG clinical studies and field trials.

Myth 1: "Late-stage cancer presentation in Malaysia is solely due to lack of hospital facilities." +
Scientific Reality: Evidence from the National Cancer Registry indicates that over 63% of patients present at Stage III or IV largely due to low public health literacy, delayed symptom recognition, and fragmented referral pathways at the primary care level. REBUNG addresses this exact gap by upskilling GPs and community navigators.
Myth 2: "Primary care doctors already possess all necessary tools for early cancer screening and navigation." +
Scientific Reality: Prior to REBUNG CCPC training, baseline assessments showed significant gaps in standardized screening algorithms among general practitioners. Following the 15-week OpenLearning course, median knowledge scores improved dramatically from 7-8 to 10-12 points (out of 16), with >90% of doctors committing to practice changes.
Myth 3: "Community B40 volunteers cannot effectively assist patients through complex hospital diagnostic pathways." +
Scientific Reality: Through the Ra.Kan Ku Pro module, trained B40 community leaders and NGO personnel successfully function as intermediate navigators, guiding high-risk individuals through clinical appointments, addressing socio-cultural fears, and substantially reducing default rates between screening and definitive treatment.
