Therapeutic Exercise Module for Children with Special Needs

The Seminar and Workshop on Therapeutic Exercises to Improve Sensory Skills for Children with Special Educational Needs aims to provide knowledge to parents with special needs children on various categories of special needs, and how they can play a role to assist the development of their children in terms of their emotion, behavior, psychomotor skills and reducing the disability appearance. Children with special educational needs have less or almost no therapeutic exercise at home because parents have less exposure or have minimal knowledge on how to assist their children in this area. This project focuses on delivering seminar and workshops on effective therapeutic exercises focusing on Gross and Fine Motor skills to parents ‘hands-on’ while being monitored by expert trainers. It is aimed to expose parents on the knowledge and skills on effective therapeutic exercise techniques for their special needs children so that it can be practiced at home. The Special Education Handbook of Therapeutic Exercises for Sensory Integration book, co-written by Dr Donnie Adams, the project leader and Assoc. Prof Dr Aznan Che Ahmad, from University Science Malaysia was produced as part of this project. It includes fast facts on the types and characteristics of special needs, step to step pictorial guide on effective therapeutic exercises focusing on Gross and Fine Motor skills with YouTube links.
