COMMUNITIZE@UM, spearheaded by UM Cares, continues to demonstrate impressive growth and impact across Malaysia. With a strong emphasis on inclusive development, social responsibility, and grassroots empowerment, the month of March marked a pivotal milestone in UM’s mission to be a university for society.

Scaling Impact: 17 Tier 1 Projects Across 44 Parliamentary Constituencies
In March 2025, 178 Tier 1 community engagement projects were actively implemented, reaching communities in 44 parliamentary constituencies nationwide. These initiatives, led by faculties, research centres, and students, address pressing issues ranging from education and health awareness to environmental sustainability and digital literacy. Each project is designed not only to serve local communities but also to offer real-world experiential learning for students—building leadership, empathy, and civic responsibility.

CAKnA Tier 2: Deepening Community Collaboration
Meanwhile, CAKnA, UM Cares’ Tier 2 program has begun scaling deeper collaborations with targeted communities. These initiatives are more intensive and sustainable, emphasizing co-creation and capacity building. March saw the expansion of CAKnA in both urban and rural areas, laying the groundwork for long-term transformation and more inclusive development outcomes.

Elevating Visibility and Cross-Sector Engagement
In February and March 2025, UM Cares significantly enhanced its public visibility:

  • Featured in multiple university bulletins, social media campaigns, and internal communications.
  • Engaged with national stakeholders including policymakers, NGOs, and community leaders.
  • Promoted real-life stories of transformation to inspire wider participation and future partnerships.

The growing visibility reflects not just institutional commitment, but also the resonance of the COMMUNITIZE@UM narrative among Malaysians from all walks of life.

Looking Ahead: April 2025 and Beyond
As we move into April, UM Cares is gearing up for:

  • New inter-university collaborations to amplify outreach.
  • Expansion of CAKnA programs into youth development and climate resilience projects.
  • Launch of a community storytelling series, featuring voices from the ground to highlight impact and inspire action.

Why This Matters
UM Cares is redefining what it means for a university to serve its nation. Through strategic, inclusive, and compassionate programming, the COMMUNITIZE@UM initiative is creating a ripple effect of empowerment across Malaysia.

Whether you’re a student, academic, policymaker, or NGO leader, there's a place for you in this growing movement.
