Green Synergy: Transforming Battery Waste into Community Energy

A strategic partnership was sealed on January 15, 2026, between BMW Group Malaysia and Universiti Malaya to give a "second life" to electric vehicle (EV) batteries for future sustainability.

  • Recycling Innovation: Converting used EV batteries into efficient Energy Storage Systems (ESS).
  • Community Impact: Bringing solar energy supply to interior and rural areas.
  • Sustainable Campus: Integrating green energy technology within the Universiti Malaya ecosystem.

This project is led by technical expertise from UMPEDAC with field support from UMCares and UMSDC.

BIM Obesity Awareness Video: A collaboration between UM's Faculty of Pharmacy and RC Deaf Mission launched a video in Malaysian Sign Language (BIM) to bridge the health literacy gap for the deaf community.

PU Subang Mushroom Hub: Initiating an Oyster Mushroom Entrepreneurship Program based on the Circular Economy (zero waste) to empower the economy of BAKAT members and airbase personnel.

Universiti Malaya, in collaboration with the Faculty of Pharmacy UM, UMCares, and RC Deaf Mission (RCDM) Malaysia, has launched an Obesity Awareness Video in Malaysian Sign Language (BIM). This inclusive initiative aims to bridge health information gaps for the deaf community by providing accessible guidance on obesity, enhancing health literacy, and promoting healthier lifestyles through meaningful academic–community collaboration.
